Building Congrio began in Februry 2015 but a lot of work led to that point. Our own design work occurred in late 2012. Our first meeting with the naval architect happened in January 2013. The design took shape throughout 2013 and by early 2014 we had a set of plans to take on the road to visit builders. Four builders gave us proposals and it took time to work through all of them. Finally in November 2014 a contract with Gulfstream Shipbuilding in Freeport, Florida was signed. After lofting (breaking down the design into flat pieces for a computer to cut steel) the steel was ordered and delivered in late January 2015.
Laying the keel February 1 was symbolic of the beginning of the build.
It starts as flat pieces of steel carefully computer cut into the desired shapes.
The stern tube that holds the propeller shaft.
By the 1st of June the hull has complete form.
The propeller nozzle is super heavy and takes teamwork to move into place.
An exact fit around the propeller is critical for smooth operation. They got it right.
The cap rail all around the boat is stainless steel rectangular tube with 1/4" thick walls.
Main and generator engines are in the shop. The guy is positioning a stainless steel half pipe rub rail to weld to the hull.
